Setting up SEO plugin by Yoast

SEO plugin by Yoast is one of the most installed and used plugin in WordPress. Do you want to boost your SEO results? Then let’s install and configure it.

Yoast SEO plugin will offer you the following:

a) You can manipulate the SEO tags and metadata description in each page

b) You can check the keywords in a order you have already applied

c) XML sitemaps

d) RSS configuration

e) Search result preview

f) Canonical order of posts and pages


a) Login to your WordPress admin panel

b) In Plugins tab click “Add New

c) Now in search bar search for “Yoast SEO”

d) Install the plugin and activate it





a) Now under Features tab enable the Advanced settings pages



b) Click on Save the changes

c) Now under Your Info tab put your personal and site information

Setting up Web master tool:

If you already verified your site with Google then leave this tab. Otherwise to verify your site with Google follow the standard procedure.

Go to Google Search Console> Login with your valid email id> Click on Web master tool 

You will directed with two methods to verify your site with Google.

a) Recommended method

b) Alternative method

You can upload the provided file with FTP in the recommended method.

Otherwise go for alternative method.


Now  install a plugin activate it called “Insert Headers and Footers“.

Now under alternative method > click HTML Tag.

Here you will get a meta tag to copy. Copy that meta tag and paste under Settings> Insert Headers and Footers > Scripts in Header  in your WordPress.

Now Save it and click verify under Google Web master tool.

You are done with the site verification with Google.


Keep the security setting disabled.

Titles and Metas:

a) Now click on the titles and metas tab under Yoast SEO



b) Under the General tab choose the separator you want to use.

c) Under Home page you will see title template as given below



d) Leave it as it is

Post types:

Using Yoast you can set meta tags and titles for different posts, pages, attachments and various custom post type you have made. Keep the default settings as it is. Only change the template title to “%%title%%”




Under taxonomies you can index your archive. Keep the default setting as it is.


Here you will get the title and meta tag for your author and date based archive. If you allow other persons to write to your blog keep it enabled otherwise make it disabled.



Leave it as it is.

Now under Social tab of Yoast SEO set all the social media links and save them.

XML sitemaps:

Keep the user sitemap setting disabled.




Keep the rest of the settings as default provided by Yoast.





You are done with Yoast setup. For further manipulation your can change the current settings as per your need.
